I hope I did The Little Prince cover justice. It was such a joy to read and illustrate!

I thought about creating some volcanoes and adding the sheep or snake but decided they could distract from the dominant element. I wanted your eyes to move right to The Little Prince and rose, who are facing the pages of the book and inviting you to open it.

There are seven stars, one for each person he meets on his journey.

My first sketch of the Prince
This was my first book cover illustration. As much as I wanted to use all the colors, I decided to limit my palette as much as possible. I loved exploring possibilities for stars, especially the ink wash over wax pastels — DELICIOUS! I’ll definitely
There’s that ink wash I mentioned.
I added oil pastel shavings to create a resistance and really loved the outer-spacey texture it gave me. At least it’s how I see space in my imagination.
